Men practice on A-Sun Championship course during time in Florida

10/10/2009 11:30:24 AM

ORLANDO, Fla. The Kennesaw State men’s cross country team spent Friday morning in DeLand, Fla., where they ran on the course that will hold the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on October 31st.

The Owls, who are in central Florida to compete in the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Saturday, took full advantage of their day between travel and competition. The 8k course is located at Sperling Sports Complex, several miles north of the campus of Stetson University, who is hosting the A-Sun Championship. Overall, it was well received by the runners, who are excited to run the course in competition in a few weeks.

“It’s a really flat course, and even though it’s sandy, we should be able to put up some really good times,” said freshman Nabil Hamid. “The real challenge with the course is making sure we are familiar with the layout, but after studying the map and then jogging it we shouldn’t have any issues with that.”

Knowing the layout of the course will be a crucial element to the team’s success, as the runners will make three loops around the complex, all of them slightly different.

The Owls will compete two more times before the conference meet, including Saturday. The men’s race at the Disney Cross Country Classic begins at 7:45 a.m.
