Rain cancels deciding game of Black and Gold World Series

10/23/2009 3:09:59 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – After a dramatic second game of the 2009 Black and Gold World Series, the third and deciding game was less than climactic as rain canceled the final game of the best-of-three series causing a tie in the Fall Classic at Stillwell Stadium.

After the Gold Team won the opener and the Black Team took the dramatic second game, today’s game was called with two outs in the top of the third inning with the Black Team leading, 2-0, before the second eruption of rain halted the contest. Rain had caused an earlier delay after the second inning.

The Black Team scored in the top of the first inning when Jordan Craft scored on a bases-loaded single by Brandon Brown. They added a run in the top of third inning, before the rain struck, when Josh Whitaker launched a solo home run to center field off Gold starter Jeff Brown.

Brad Long started for the Black Team and was impressive in his two innings of work as he allowed just one hit while striking out three batters. The fall season officially came to an end on Friday, as the Owls will now be off until January when practice begins for the spring season. The Owls open up the 2010 season at Stillwell Stadium when they host Liberty in a weekend series.
