CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Kennesaw State's Tyler Mills finished what he started in impressive fashion as he defeated Mercer's Victor Dias, 6-1, 6-2 in the finals of the C2 Flight of the 2009 UTC Baras Collegiate Fall Classic at the Champions Club.
Mills, who had played four tiebreakers in the three matches leading up to the finals, rolled through the championship match on Sunday morning in straight sets and was in complete control of the match from the outset.
"Tyler played his best match of the weekend in the final,” said Owls head coach Brandon Padgett. “I'm happy with how he finished."
The win highlighted a solid weekend for the men's team, which saw several strong performances including the emergence of the doubles team of Ryan Bouttell and Simon Janik.
"Many of the players we lost to went on to win the finals, so it shows how well we played this weekend,” mentioned Padgett. "I'm happy with the overall effort and level of play this weekend. We can certainly build from this tournament."
