KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head men’s tennis coach Brandon Padgett and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced that Ryan Spencer has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Owls beginning in the 2010-11 season.

"We are extremely excited to have Ryan join our program,” said Padgett. “He will bring excellent doubles experience, as well as very solid singles experience to our team. Ryan is one more piece of the puzzle that will help take this new program to the next level in a hurry."

A native of Katy, Texas, Spencer was rated as the No. 25-ranked player in the state last season. A 4-Star rated player by tennisrecruiting.net, he currently holds a No. 132 national ranking.

“I am really looking forward to being part of the Kennesaw State Owls next year,” said Spencer on joining the Owls in the fall of 2010.

Spencer has enjoyed a strong prep career at Seven Lakes High School where he was a standout doubles player finishing third at the 4A Texas State Finals while also being a 5A qualifier in mixed doubles. In singles, he recently earned victories over four of the nation’s Top 100 players.

"I was really impressed with Ryan and his family when they visited KSU,” said Director of Tennis Operations T.J. Greggs. “He is a tenacious competitor and a solid student. He's the kind of student-athlete you dream about having in your program."

Spencer is the first student-athlete this fall to be signed by Coach Padgett and the men’s tennis program. The Owls will begin their spring season on Jan. 29 at the University of Memphis.
