KENNESAW, Ga.—Kennesaw State head women’s golf coach Rhyll Brinsmead and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics have announced the early signings of  Carrie Metz, Lindsay Adams, and Hayley Clinning to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Owls beginning in the 2010-11 season.

A native of Carnesville, Ga., Carrie Metz, is ranked No. 1 in the state of Georgia, as well as No. 46 in the nation according to Golfweek, and No. 80 in the nation according to Junior Golf Scoreboard, making her the first top 100 ranked player the Kennesaw State women’s golf program has ever signed.

Metz had a stellar year in 2009, recording numerous top finishes en route to winning seven Southeastern Junior Golf Tour Events, including the 2008-09 SJGT points championship.  Additionally, Metz won the 2009 Georgia State Golf Association Girls Junior Champion after shooting rounds of 68, 73, and 69 to finish 6 under.

Metz was further honored by her representation of the state of Georgia in the annual Georgia vs. South Carolina junior match play championship. In addition, at age 12, Metz won the Junior Amateur Nationals.

“To sign the No. 1 ranked player in the class of 2010 for Georgia and the #46th ranked player in the nation is testament to the direction the program is headed,” Brinsmead said.  “Carrie is the hardest working individual I have ever recruited. She had a phenomenal summer in which she won the GSGA junior championship finishing 6-under par. Carrie is extremely excited to join Kennesaw State and I will expect her to make an immediate impact on the team.”

Also joining the Owls for the 2010-11 season will be Lindsay Adams of Lawrenceville, Ga.  Adams, the No. 7 ranked player in the state of Georgia, led her high school team to an undefeated 73-0 record in 2008.

In 2007 Adams represented Georgia in the Ga. vs. South Carolina junior match play championship.  Also during the 2007 season, Adams was the class 7AA medalist, a feat she nearly duplicated in 2008 before finishing as the runner-up.

“Lindsay has shown great improvement in her play over the past year,” Brinsmead said.  “She is a great student and a very athletic individual. Lindsay’s competiveness and passion for golf are contagious.”

The Owls final early signing Hayley Clinning, comes to Kennesaw State all the way from Manukau City, New Zealand, where she is a member of the New Zealand Srixon Foundation squad, and a two-time representative of New Zealand on the Tasman Cup Team, an annual team match play competition versus Australia, in 2008-09.

“I’m very excited to bring Hayley onto the team next year,” Brinsmead said.  “She has extensive international tournament experience and this will be a great asset to the team. She has a great personality and is very excited to play her collegiate golf at Kennesaw State.”

In 2009, Clinning took home a top ten finish at the Under 19 New Zealand Championship, placing ninth after shooting rounds of 76, 72, and 78.  During that same year, she also earned a seventh place finish at the North Island Stroke Play Championship (74, 83, 73, 77), in addition to advancing to the match play portion of the New Zealand Amateur Championship.

Prior to that, Clinning finished 19th at the Australian Girls Amateur Championship, shooting rounds of 77, 78, and 72.

“I have never been more excited to announce a recruiting class,” Brinsmead said.  “The talent of these three players will provide the depth to the roster that we need to take the next step towards winning championships.”
