KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head softball coach Scott Whitlock and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the signing of three student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Owls for the 2010-2011 season. Heather Daniell, Bianca Durant and Stephanie Phillips will play softball for the Owls beginning next year.
“We are very pleased with this class,” said Whitlock. “We had such large recruiting classes in 2008 and 2009 to re-establish our overall talent base; it was great to be able to concentrate on specific needs this year. Each of our three signees address specific areas at which we’ll likely have needs in 2011.”
Heather Daniell will come to Kennesaw State from Villa Rica, Ga. where she played catcher and first base at Villa Rica High School and for the East Cobb Bullets club team.
“Heather is a strong, powerful hitter and a fine catcher,” added Whitlock. “With the graduation of Jenna Closner on the horizon, she’ll be counted on to contribute behind the plate and with her bat.”
The second early signee, Bianca Durant, makes her home in Douglasville, Ga. where she plays outfield for Chapel Hill High School and club ball for the Georgia Elite.
“Bianca is an extremely gifted outfielder with a great upside as a hitter,” stated Whitlock. “We feel that she’ll be in the outfield mix as soon as she walks on campus.”
Stephanie Phillips will not travel far from her Marietta, Ga. home to play for the Owls next season. Phillips, a middle infielder, attends Sprayberry High School and played club ball with future teammate Heather Daniell for the East Cobb Bullets.
“We love Steph’s work ethic and skill set,” added Whitlock. “She’s a middle infielder who will provide us both depth and versatility in the middle.”
Daniell, Durant and Phillips are the only three student-athletes to be signed by Coach Whitlock and the softball program this fall.
