KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State Director of Athletics, Dr. Dave Waples, was presented with the Betty L. Siegel Award at the KSU Alumni Dinner on Saturday evening at the Jolly Lodge.
Dr. Waples is the 18th recipient of the prestigious award that recognizes the individual who exemplifies outstanding qualities of scholarship, leadership, and service to Kennesaw State University, as well as displays a strong commitment to students, fellow faculty members and surrounding community.
“I am totally surprised and honored to receive this award,” said Kennesaw State’s longtime administrator. “This was completely unexpected and I am overwhelmed and humbled.”
Kennesaw State’s second Director of Athletics spearheaded the movement of KSU athletics from an NAIA member to the NCAA as a Division II member and has most recently taken Kennesaw State to Division I status, the highest level of intercollegiate participation.
Nominations for the Betty L. Siegel Award were gathered by alumni over a period of several months as they were asked to recommend a favored faculty or staff member, sharing the experiences and interaction with the nominee that made that individual such a memorable part of the alum's experience at Kennesaw State University.
The Betty L. Siegel award was created in 1992 to honor the President of Kennesaw State University and long-time supporter, Dr. Betty L. Siegel. Annually, the award is given to an outstanding KSU faculty or staff member, in keeping with Dr. Siegel's "excellence in teaching" doctrine.
