KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State baseball assistant coach Ryan Coe has accepted a position as a scout with the Texas Rangers.  A member of KSU's NAIA National Championship team in 1994, Coe began his service with the Rangers last weekend.

"We want to thank Coach Coe for all he's done for our program as a player, and as an assistant coach," said KSU head coach Mike Sansing.  "I know he's done a tremendous job in our recruiting and in our player-development."

Coe earned All-American status for three years at three different levels of collegiate baseball, beginning at Cleveland (Tenn.) State Community College in 1993.  He then earned All-American awards with the Owls after the NAIA National Championship season in 1994, and then the program's first NCAA season in 1995.  As a senior in that 1995 season, Coe hit .455 for the Owls with 11 homers and 71 RBIs.  Coe finished his KSU career with a .411 batting average, hitting 29 homers and driving in 150 runs.

A 1995 draftee of the Houston Astros organization, Coe played for three summers for the Astros, earning Midwest League All-Star recognition in 1996.

At the conclusion of his minor league career, Coe joined Coach Sansing's staff as a hitting coach in 1998.  Under Coe's tutelage, the Owls set single-season school records for batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, and bases on balls.  Coe had served as an assistant coach under Coach Sansing for 12 seasons, helping the Owls make a successful transition from Division II to Division I.

In 2004, Coe was inducted into the Kennesaw State University Athletic Hall of Fame, joining pitcher John Kelly as the first inductees from baseball.  Coe is married to former softball All-American and KSU Athletic Hall of Fame member Cara (Dornstauder) Coe.  The couple has a young daughter, Samantha.

"Ryan and his wife are both tremendous representatives of Kennesaw State University," said Coach Sansing.  "He, Cara, and Samantha will always be a part of the KSU family."
