CHICAGO – Jon-Michael Nickerson scored a team-high 16 points for Kennesaw State, but a late rally by Tennessee State lifted the Tigers past the Owls, 73-67, on Saturday afternoon at the Chicago Invitational Challenge at the UIC Pavilion.

The Owls (2-3) dropped their third consecutive game after beginning the season with two consecutive wins, while Tennessee State snapped its four-game losing streak with its first win of the season.

Markeith Cummings added 15 points for the Black and Gold, who came within a point of Tennessee State (1-4) with 2:33 left when junior guard Kelvin McConnell, who scored 13 points, hit a three-pointer to make the score 64-63. However, the Tigers would end the game on a 9-4 run for the six-point win.

Josh Sain, who scored a game-high 23 points, hit a three-pointer to spark the rally while Tashan Frederick added a basket and Darius Cox hit four straight free-throws to seal the win.

The Black and Gold shot 39 percent from the field and had four players score in double-figures. Redshirt freshman LaDaris Green had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Owls, who were out-rebounded, 40-34, but did hold a three rebound advantage on the offensive glass.

Kennesaw State will play Mississippi Valley State on Saturday morning in the final game of the Chicago Invitational Challenge. The game can be heard live on 920am WGKA and can also be heard online at www.920WGKA.com. Craig Corbin and Scott Webb will carry all the action.
