KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State’s head men’s golf coach Jay Moseley has announced that Sam Curtis has transferred to the Owls from Berry College and will play for the Black and Gold beginning in the spring.

“We are happy to welcome Sam to the program,” said Moseley, the Owls first-year head coach. “He is an outstanding young man, an excellent student and a very good golfer who brings a strong resume with him from Berry. He will definitely be able to contribute to our squad.”

The Calhoun, Ga. native, who was a high school teammate of current Owl Chad Wilson, was an NAIA Ping All-American last year and was selected to the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, the SSAC All-Freshman Team and was one of five rookies named to the NAIA National Tournament All-Freshman Team.

“I am excited to come here,” said Curtis. “Kennesaw State is an excellent university, but leaving Berry for a Division I program is a big step up for me as a golfer. I know that I will get better at Kennesaw State under Coach Moseley. This is a great opportunity for me and I can’t wait for the semester to get started.”

Curtis’ impressive resume includes a one-stroke victory at the 2008 Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational at the Coosa Country Club in Rome, Ga., where he shot a 3-under par 141, including a 4-under par 68 in the first round, to claim the championship in the 86-player field. He also finished fourth at the 2009 SSAC Men’s Golf Championship with a 2-over par 146 to help the Vikings win the team title.

This fall, Curtis had a pair of top10 finishes, placing fifth in the defense of his title at the Chick-Fil-A Invitational where he shot a 4-under par 140. He also finished tied for ninth with a 2-over par 146 at the Rhodes College Men’s Fall Classic.

Prior to college, Curtis, who was an honors graduate at Calhoun HS, enjoyed plenty of success at the junior level, including victories at the 2006 Georgia State Golf Association Junior Sectional Shootout and the 2007 Georgia Junior PGA Championship.

Kennesaw State resumes practice on Jan. 12 with the Owls spring season beginning on Feb. 21 when the Black and Gold participate at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala.
