KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State Owls junior Jeff Karlsson will be competing in the World Amateur Team Championships Oct. 28-31, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Karlsson, ranked 52nd by World Amateur Golf Rankings will be playing against the world’s best amateurs.
Chosen by the nation’s team captain Walter Danewild, Karlsson will be joined by Jesper Kennegard (51) of Arizona State and Hennrick Norlander (23) of Augusta State to form the three man team to represent Sweden.
“I am very proud to make and be able to represent my national team,” Karlsson said. “It was one of my summer goals and to achieve it is really exciting.”
Karlsson began raising eyebrows with his play this past summer. The Gothenburg native finished fourth at the International European Amateur and finished runner-up at the Fredrik Jacobson Masters. At the highest level of European golf, he narrowly missed the cut at the European Tour’s Scandinavian Masters, showing that he can perform even on the brightest stage.
"It is extremely exciting to have Jeff competing in the World Amateur Team Championship. Being able to represent your country on the world stage is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” head coach Jay Moseley said.
During the fall season at Kennesaw, Karlsson has posted a first place finish at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, a second place finish at the Cardinal Intercollegiate and a sixth place finish at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate. Karlsson is currently ranked 13th by Golfstat.
“Jeff has certainly earned his spot on this team by his stellar performances this summer, and his play this fall has validated his spot among the best college and amateur golfers in the world. It would be no surprise at all to see Jeff's name at the top of the leaderboard in this prestigious event,” Moseley said.
The World Amateur Team Championship is a tournament that takes place every two years. Organized by the International Golf Federation, the top amateur golfers from around the globe travel up to several thousand miles for a chance to win the Eisenhower Trophy for their respective countries.
The tournament will be played on two courses, the Buenos Aires Golf Club and the Olivos Golf Club. Golf Digest ranks both courses as Top-100 golf courses in the world.
Karlsson will be in group six teeing of at 8:30 on the Buenos Aires Golf Course. He will be paired with Jose Pablo Rolz (3749) of Guatemala and Kieran Pratt (23) of Australia. Live scoring can be viewed on
