KENNESAW, Ga. – On Saturday morning more than 300 participants arrived at Kennesaw State to take part in the 2nd Annual Owls Making Strides 5K Race for breast cancer awareness. The annual event raised more than $3,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society.

The on-campus race drew the largest number of runners in the brief history, and more than doubled the total number of participants from last year. Runners participated in six age groups ranging from 19-and-under through 60-and-older and included breast cancer survivors, family members as well students.

“The race was an overwhelming success,” said Lauren Katovsky, Director of Marketing. “The turnout was above and beyond what we expected and we couldn’t be more pleased with the support we received from the local businesses, community and volunteers.”

The race was sponsored by local businesses Chick-Fil-A, Hooters, Best Western and LGE Community Credit Union.  Following the race, the participants were treated to lunch courtesy of Chick-Fil-A and Boston Market. Each participant also received four tickets to the women’s basketball game against North Florida where the race awards were presented at halftime.

Tara Mooney won the overall women’s race with a time of 20:48, while Quenton Cassidy finished with a time of 16:52 to win the overall men’s race.
