KENNESAW, Ga. - The men's tennis team beat the sun out of bed this morning to pitch in and help out at the Atlanta Beat's first community appearance today, volunteering at their 5k road race and one mile fun run. The event, sponsored by the KSU Foundation, YWCA, and the Atlanta Beat, featured the coaches and players of the Beat, Atlanta's representative in the Women's Professional Soccer League.
Men's tennis head coach T.J. Greggs and his team were the official timekeepers for the event today, while assistant coach Jacob Turner and the team also assisted with set up and tear down of the food and drink area for the event.
"This was a lot of fun for the team today," commented Greggs. "The guys had a great time at the event, and we hope to do it again next year."
The race featured a 5k run, followed by a one mile "fun run," featuring dog owners and their pets running a one mile road race in front of the site of the new stadium on George Busbee Parkway. The Atlanta Beat are scheduled to begin their season on May 9, 2010 at the stadium, which is currently under construction.
"Everyone from the YWCA, KSU Foundation, and the Atlanta Beat had so much energy today," added sophomore captain Ryan Bouttell. "We all had fun today, and we are really glad we could help out with the event."
