INDIANAPOLIS- A pair of Kennesaw State Owls learned that they were selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Women’s Track and Field Championship when the field was announced on Friday afternoon. The East Preliminary Round begins May 27 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
Mackenzie Howe, the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Champion in the 10,000 Meters, will represent Kennesaw State in that event in Greensboro, making her second career appearance in an NCAA meet. She finished 18th in the NCAA South Region Cross Country Championship back in November. Her time of 35:16.96 in the event is 28th in the East Region to this point.
Junior Jill Arthur will be competing in the Triple Jump in Greensboro, as her leap of 12.60 Meters at the A-Sun Championships on May 15 not only netted her the conference title, but earned her a spot in the national meet.
This is the first time the Owls are eligible to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships, since the athletic department just complete the NCAA’s mandatory, four-year re-classification process last summer.
The first two rounds of the Championship will be held in Greensboro, with the field in each individual event being pared down to 24, with the top-12 finishers in each event from the East Preliminary Rounds and West Preliminary Rounds making the trip to Eugene, Oregon, for the final two rounds beginning on June 9.
