2010-11 Lady Owls Schedule
KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's women's basketball team will face perhaps its toughest schedule in program history in the 2010-11 season. The schedule, released this morning by KSU head coach Colby Tilley, features seven schools that reached post-season play in 2009-10.
The Lady Owls will open the season with a four-game road trip that includes three ACC foes. KSU opens the season Nov. 12 against Miami before heading a few miles up the road to Boca Raton, Fla., to face Florida Atlantic two days later. The Lady Owls then return to the Peach State to face metro Atlanta rival Georgia Tech Nov. 21 before wrapping up the month of November with a contest at Clemson Nov. 21.
"I want our team to develop a work ethic that will pay off down the stretch once we start conference games," said Coach Tilley. "We have a team that can compete as long as we work hard every single possession. We're playing all of these tough games early in the season simply to make ourselves a better team."
The Lady Owls will open up the KSU Convocation Center for the 2010-11 season Dec. 2 when they face Gardner-Webb. GWU received votes in the coaches' poll last season and also won the Big South Conference regular season, finishing at 28-5 overall.
KSU opens up Atlantic Sun Conference play with a trip to Nashville to face Belmont and Lipscomb on Dec. 16 and 18, respectively. The Lady Owls return home to face Chattanooga - a team that has won the Southern Conference 11 straight seasons - on Dec. 21.
"This is probably the toughest schedule we've had in my 15 years at KSU in that we're playing four ACC teams and seven teams total that reached the post-season," Coach Tilley said. "It prepares us first and foremost for our conference play and second, it gives our players a great opportunity to play against some of the best schools and best players in the country."
The Lady Owls begin A-Sun play in earnest on January 3, 2011, with a home tilt against USC Upstate. In all, the Lady Owls will play 20 games in A-Sun play in hopes of qualifying for the A-Sun Championships March 2-5. "I believe the A-Sun is going to be more balanced than at any time since we've joined the league," said Coach Tilley. "On any given night, anybody can beat anybody. The players have gotten better and every team has a chance to win every time they step on the court."
Following the A-Sun Championships, the Lady Owls will take on North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., on March 13 to close out the regular season.
