MISSISSAUGUA, Ontario- It was a total team effort for the Owls on Tuesday evening, as four players scored in double figures and eight had six rebounds or more in the Black and Gold’s 90-56 triumph over LTD Mississaugua on the campus of University of Toronto Mississaugua. Spencer Dixon and Artie Marine led the way with 21 points apiece.

The Owls, who are now 3-1 on their trip, began separating themselves from the opposition with a 16-5 run that spanned most of the third quarter after leading just 45-38 heading into halftime. The run included a pair of threes by Dixon, including a four-point play, and a basket from behind the arc by Marine. The trio of three-pointers were three of 11 the Owls had on the evening, led by Dixon’s four.

Cummings, who was the leading scorer in the first three games of the team’s five-game, week-long tour of the greater Toronto and Niagara Falls area, had 15 points in the first half before scoring just one point in the second half. His efforts were not wasted after intermission, however, as he finished the ball game with 10 rebounds, the only Owl to record a double-double.

Up 62-47 after three quarters, as the Owls were once again playing under FIBA regulations that call for four, ten-minute quarters and a 24 second shot clock, head coach Tony Ingle’s squad began to put the game away against a squad that had five players that had played against the Owls on Monday night.

In the first three-and-a-half minutes of the final session, the Owls went on a 12-6 spurt that included one of the most exciting plays of the game. Aaron Anderson, who had 12 rebounds in Monday night’s victory over LTD Toronto, had 10 points to go along with nine rebounds, and capped off his evening with an emphatic put-back dunk off of a miss by his current Owl teammate and former junior college teammate Mirza Sabic. Anderson would also wow the crowd on hand a few minutes later with a fast break off of a feed from Mirza Medinic, who had nine rebounds on the night as well.

In total, the Owls out-rebounded LTD Mississaugua 60-29 on Tuesday evening, and were able to combine their work on the glass with a plethora of deflections and steals to create easy scoring opportunities for themselves. Freshman Andrew Osemhen, who had seven rebounds on the evening, felt like the team played hard throughout the contest.

“We really came out and stepped it up tonight, especially when it came to rebounding and on the defensive end,” the Loganville, Ga., native commented. “We saw a lot of their players on Monday night, so we knew what we needed to do better, and our energy and hustle really paid off.”

The Owls had no problem sharing the ball, either, on Tuesday evening, dishing out a total of 22 assists, highlighted by Dixon’s six and five for Kelvin McConnell.

Ingle’s squad finishes the week with an encore match-up with Guelph Phoenix at Villanova College in King City, Ontario. Guelph defeated the Owls in their second game of the trip, 79-72, in their only loss of the trip thus far. Tip-off is set for 7:30.
