KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State Athletic Department is proud to announce that the new KSU Strength and Conditioning facility is officially open for business for all 250 KSU student-athletes as of Monday morning.
The new facility is located at the practice facility on Big Shanty Road adjacent to KSU's main campus and it is in the same building as the basketball, volleyball and golf indoor practice facilities.
The 3,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility is truly jaw-dropping as you walk in through the double glass doors. The high ceilings, spacious workout areas and school logos give a professional type atmosphere.
Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Joe Pitts couldn’t stop smiling as he gave a brief description of some of the new equipment and what he thinks this new facility can do for KSU.
“We stuck with Power Lift as they are a quality company that has very good equipment,” a smiling Pitts said. “We got six new racks, to go along with the two from the old weight room, so we now have a total of eight racks. Of the eight racks, four are now combo racks which means they are two-sided so more athletes can get a quality workout at the same time. We also got two new sets of dumbbells and some new accessory equipment which will enhance the total weight room experience.”
“I couldn’t be more excited about this amazing facility and the feeling I get when the student-athletes come in here and you see the look on their faces. It’s truly indescribable. This new facility will allow the athletes to get more work done and take their training to higher level. Since opening this week you can see the athlete’s workouts have been even more intense and I think this can be a great recruiting tool for the department as well.”
Senior Associate Athletics Director
Scott Whitlock talked about the process of getting the new training facility built and the impact it will have on the department as a whole.
“We have had a need for a larger strength and conditioning facility for years, but we had to wait for the opportunity and the funding to get the project underway,” Whitlock said. “All those things started to come together about a year ago which is when we officially started the process. When Director of Athletics
Vaughn Williams came on board in April, I told him where we were and that we can do this the right way so he gave me the go ahead and we went and got it done.”
“As an administrator it’s great to be able to supply the student-athletes and coaches with something that can help them because that is our job to serve and help the student-athletes to make them the best they can be. As a coach it is wonderful as well because we can do our team workouts quicker and more efficiently in a more wide open space. It is a win-win for everybody”
