KENNESAW, Ga. - Junior Jeff Karlsson of the men's golf team was named Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week after his ninth place performance at the Linger Longer Invitational Mar. 27-29.
Karlsson posted a 54-hole score of (73-71-71/215, -1) at the Great Waters Course of Reynolds Plantation. In a cold and wet environment that gave most competitors trouble, Karlsson was able to tally 12 birdies that helped the Black and Gold finish tied for sixth.
Karlsson's individual performance bested some of the top collegiate players in the country including Stanford's David Chung, who was selected as a representative for team USA in the World Amateurs.
Jeff is currently ranked ninth in the nation by Golfstat.com and is in contention for the Golfstat Cup. An award given out to the nations best collegiate golfer. His 70.56 stroke average in 18 rounds of play is one of the best in collegiate golf.
This is Karlsson's first A-Sun Golfer of the Week Award, making him the third member of the Owls squad to garner the honors this spring.
