Spencer Named To A-Sun All-Freshman Team

Spencer becomes the first men's tennis player to earn a postseason all-conference honor

2011 A-Sun All-Conference Awards

KENNESAW, Ga. – With its 2011 season now officially over the Kennesaw State men’s tennis team received a first-time honor to cap off its best season in program history as the conference office released the Atlantic Sun Men’s Tennis All-Conference Teams on Tuesday.

Freshman Ryan Spencer was named to the All-Freshman team marking the first time in the history of the men’s tennis program that a player has received an all-conference nomination.

Spencer led Kennesaw State in overall singles victories with 11, and also led the team in A-Sun singles wins with five. He won the clinching singles match at the No. 6 position in the Owls 4-3 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Mar. 11. The Katy, Texas native posts a 10-7 overall doubles record, including going 4-4 in A-Sun play at the No. 3 doubles spot with partner Michael Langel.

Campbell took the two major player awards as senior Davy Sum was named the A-Sun Player of the Year, while Fernando Guillen took home the A-Sun Freshman of the Year honor. North Florida head coach Igal Buberman was award the A-Sun Coach of the Year.

The Black and Gold set program records this season for most overall and conference wins in a single season with nine and three, respectively.
