STILLWATER, Okla. – Kennesaw State sophomore Ben Greene is the recipient of the Elite 88 award for the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The award came on the eve of the Black and Gold’s first Championship appearance at the Karsten Creek Golf Club.

Greene, a sophomore finance major, currently carries a 4.0 grade point average. The Duluth, Ga., native was presented the award during the golf championship banquet on the campus of Oklahoma State Monday evening, following a testimonial by PGA Professional Scott Verplank.

“I strive to make good grades and don’t expect anything in return. Grades are something I hold in high regards and work hard at,” Greene said. “Professional golf is not a guarantee so I have to have a backup plan. I set a goal when I entered college to make good grades and finish in four years and it’s an honor to receive such a
prestigious award from the NCAA.”

The Elite 88, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. The number of credits completed breaks all ties.
