O' Connor Qualifies for U.S. Amateur Public Links

Nagy named first alternate for Championship

CANTON, Ga. - Greg O' Connor a rising junior on the Kennesaw State men's golf team qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links posting a 69-70=139, -5 at the Woodmont Golf and Country Club. The 86th annual Championship will be held at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., June 27-July 2.

Entries for the qualifiers to the Championship were open to amateur golfers who, since Jan. 1, 2011, have been bona fide public course players and have not held privileges of any course that does not extend playing privileges to the general public, or privileges of any private club maintaining its own course and hold a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4. The U.S. Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.

Joining O' Connor in Oregon as automatic qualifiers will be Taylor Smith of Georgia College and State University (69-68=137) and Georgia Tech's Minghao Wang who posted a 68-71=139.

Junior Matt Nagy finished fourth after a playoff with Sepp Strake to determine the first and second alternate for the tournament. After both competitors finished at four-under-par, 140, Nagy edged out the soon to be University of Georgia golfer on the second playoff hole to secure the first alternate position.
