KENNESAW, Ga. - Following a year of tremendous performances on the golf course and in the classroom, Kennesaw State men's golfer Jeff Karlsson has been named KSU Men's Athlete of the Year.
"Jeff had an absolutely incredible year," said KSU men's golf coach Jay Moseley. "He has continued to work hard to get better on the course and he works just as hard, if not harder, in the classroom. We have so many great student-athletes at Kennesaw State that put in the effort every day to be the best student and the best athlete that they can be. For Jeff to earn this achievement is really special."
With this honor, Karlsson can add another achievement to his ever-growing resumé. June 17, Karlsson was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golfer of the Year. Six days later, Karlsson was named Division I PING Second Team All-America by the Golf Coaches Association of America. July 21, the rising senior was named a 2010-11 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for achieving at least a 3.2 grade point average while maintaining a stroke average of 76.0 or better.
Karlsson's season included wins at the Sam Hill Intercollegiate, the Seminole Classic, and the A-Sun Championships. In his victory at the A-Sun Championships, Karlsson set program records with a three-round total of 207 and a first-round 67 en route to becoming KSU's first medalist at the event. In the NCAA Regional Championships in Gainesville, Fla., Karlsson fired a 69 and 67 in the final two days to earn sixth place individually at seven-under-par and help the Owls to third place and a spot in the NCAA National Championship for the first time in program history.
"Jeff has worked hard from the first day that he stepped foot on campus," said coach Moseley. I firmly believe his best golf is still ahead of him, and he will only be better next season."
Karlsson and his coach swept the KSU Men's Awards for 2010-11, as Coach Moseley was previously named
KSU Men's Coach of the Year.
