ROCKY FACE, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team opened its fall season Friday with the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic with a team round of 301, +13 to finish the afternoon in 12th place.

Competing in what has been regarded by many as the Masters of collegiate golf, the Owls struggled in the opening round at the par 72, 7,012 yard Farm Golf Club.

Senior Jeff Karlsson posted the low round of the afternoon shooting a 74, +2 in a round that included three birdies. Sophomore Jonathan Klotz equaled the second team All-American by posting a 74, +2 of his own, tallying two birdies.

Senior Matt Nagy shot a 75, +3, sinking one of only two eagles of the tournament while junior Ben Greene turned in a 78, +6 and freshman Austin Vick posted a 81, +9 in his first ever college tournament.

The leader after the first round is host school Georgia Tech as the Yellow Jackets finished at 286, -2. Both Chattanooga and Clemson are tied for second posting team totals of 287, -1 to round out the teams under par.

Last years NCAA Championship runner-up Georgia currently sits in fourth place shooting a 289, +1 while Auburn sits just behind the Bulldogs at 290, +2.

The squad will look to rebound on Saturday as the second round begins at 10 a.m. as the Owls are again partnered with MTSU and South Carolina.
