KENNESAW, Ga. – Ben Greene, a senior on the Kennesaw State men’s golf team, is the latest recipient of the Owls of Excellence Award, a first-year honor instituted this fall by the Department of Athletics.

The Owls of Excellence Award was formed to recognize Kennesaw State student-athletes who excel in their chosen sport, in the classroom, and provide service to the community. A different student-athlete will be honored monthly and featured on the Department of Athletics’ website, www.KSUOwls.com.

Greene, a four-year member of the golf team and two-time Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Week, is an active participant with the KSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is a regular volunteer in the community. He gives his time to the Boys and Girls Club, First Tee of Atlanta and supports the Golden Soldiers, while teaching a children’s Sunday school class at his church.

Greene was an NCAA Elite 88 Award recipient at the 2011 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships. The award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 88 championships.

The Duluth, Ga., native is a finance major and possesses a 4.0 GPA. He is a three-time A-Sun All-Academic team selection.
