A-SUN RELEASE
MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State freshman guard
Chelsea Mason has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference’s Newcomer of the Week after a standout performance over the past three games, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The award is the first for Mason (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West HS) who tallied 42 points in three outings for the Owls including a career-high 16 at No. 20 Georgia Tech. Mason scored in double-figures in each contest over the last seven days, all on the road, while averaging 25 minutes per game.
“I’m shocked to get this award in my first week,” said Mason of the accomplishment. “Those games were so much fun to play in, especially in those environments. I’m just trying to go out there and do what I know how to do best, but I really have to thank my team for making me look so good.”
Mason also hit on four three-pointers, three of those coming against Davidson, and shot a team-best .395 from the field and .364 from beyond the arc. The first-year player came away with 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks and was a perfect, 4-for-4 from the free-throw line over the week as well.
The Owls, along with Mason, will make their home debut tomorrow, Nov. 21, against Troy at 2 p.m.
