MACON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team received its first conference honor of its 2012 season today as senior Vera Shkundina was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the week, conference officials announced on Wednesday morning.
The Ufa, Russia native is no stranger to this honor as this is the fourth time she has won the A-Sun Player of the Week award in her career. She won her first one on Jan. 28, 2009, the second time came on Feb. 24, 2010 and her most recent honor came on Feb. 23, 2011. The Black and Gold have now won the award six times in the program’s history.
Shkundina went a combined 3-1 as she led Kennesaw State to two road wins over Wofford and Presbyterian last weekend. She was perfect in singles action as she picked up two wins at the No. 1 spot taking both matches in straight sets. Shkundina now has 103 singles victories in her career as she passed the 100 win mark on Feb. 11. She is currently 5-2 in singles action this season at the No. 1 spot.
The Owls will be back in action on Feb. 25 when they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to take on Chattanooga.
