ATLANTA, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s and women’s track and field teams had another great start to their 2012 outdoor season with a number of first place performances at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational.
The top performer of the weekend was Owls thrower Suzee Mills. Mills recorded a first place showing in the Discuss (38.86m), Hammer (47.16m) and the Javelin (40.86m). Mills was not the only thrower to enjoy success, as Gwennetta Jones placed first in the Shot Put (12.61m) and Shannon Hooper had two second place finishes in the Hammer (45.20m) and Discuss (38.00m).
On the men’s side, Tyler Crow collected a first place throw with a distance of 38.91 in the Hammer and a third place in the Shot Put (12.96m). Hendrik Themas joined his teammate in the success with a first place performance in the Javelin (51.71m) and a third place in the Discus (39.16m).
“It was a solid effort by all the throwers this weekend,” assistant coach Duane Morris said. “I am pleased with the direction our training is going. I look forward to us getting better and having great performances by time conference comes around.”
Michelle Quimby continued her 2012 success with a first place showing in the Pole Vault (3.60m) and a second place in the High Jump (1.55m). On the track, Brittany Robinson placed first in the 800m with a time of 2:11.58, while the 4x100 team of Latia Daniels, Kentrell White, Cynthia Davis and Victoria Jackson set a school record of 46.08 in their first place efforts.
Freshman Kentrell White also set a school record in the 200m dash with her second place finish and time of 24.38. Cynthia Davis finished just behind in sixth place with a time of 24.89.
For the men, Kendall Parks continued his reign in the 110m hurdles with another first place with a time of 14.36. Parks also gathered a third place finish in the 400m hurdles (55.74).
Kennesaw also found success in the distance events as Jaakko Nieminen placed first in the 5,000m (14:44.52), while Josh Jenkins also took top honors in the 3000m Steeplechase (9:54.11).
In the field events, Anjoun Armaly had a second place performance in the long jump (6.54m), with Greg Moxely finishing fourth (6.36m). Moxely also placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.90m.
“This weekend was a testament to how hard each individual on the team has been working,” head coach Andy Eggerth said. “We are breaking records again and again each week and we are doing it with different individuals. We are developing depth on both sides and to see where each person is running is great.”
