KENNESAW, Ga. – A trio of Kennesaw State Owls were honored once more for their play during the 2011-12 men’s basketball season, as Markeith Cummings, Aaron Anderson and Spencer Dixon were named by College Sports Madness as All-Atlantic Sun Conference honorees. Cummings was a First-Team honoree, while Dixon and Anderson earned spots on the Third Team.

Cummings, who was a Second Team All A-Sun selection for the third consecutive season after being named the Preseason Player of the Year by coaches around the league back in October, led the squad with 15.4 points per contest, which is currently second among all A-Sun players, with some teams still finishing out their seasons. He will enter his senior season in 2012-13 second on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,603 career points, just 90 points behind
Herman Smith. That point total is the most-ever for an Owl during the program’s Division I era (2005-). He was also
second on the team this season with 5.3 rebounds per game, which is 15th best in the league.

Anderson is gunning to become the second straight Owl to lead the A-Sun in rebounding, having pulled down 9.0 boards per contest in his junior campaign, more than a full rebound per game ahead of USC Upstate’s Torrey Craig. His 11 double-doubles and 14 double-digit rebound performances are both high-water marks among A-Sun players this season, while he was a major threat whenever he shot the ball, setting an Owls Division I record with a 54.2 percent field goal percentage, currently seventh in the A-Sun.

Dixon ended his Owls career last week as the program’s all-time leader with 124 games played, a mark he set on Senior Night. He ends his four years with the Black and Gold as the seventh-leading scorer in program history with 1,319 points, while his 177 career steals are the most among all current active A-Sun players and is the second most in program history. He played in all 31 games during his senior campaign, averaging a league-best 37.0 minutes per game that currently ranks 21st in the nation.

Anderson and Cummings will anchor a 2012-13 squad that will also include rising sophomore Delbert Love, who earned A-Sun All-Freshman Team honors last week, his 12.4 points per game being the best among A-Sun freshmen. Owls head coach Lewis Preston, who will begin his second season at the helm of the Owls this fall, has already locked down four signees for this coming season in guards Yonel Brown and Myles Hamilton, swingman Jordan Montgomery and forward Brandon Williams.
