Men's and Women's Track Finish Second at A-Sun Championship

Men fall by less than half of a second to ETSU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State men’s and women’s track and field programs each finished second at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Saturday, as it came down to a final 4x400 race to decide the men’s competition.

In the closest finish in the 17-year history of the conference meet, the Owls were edged out by East Tennessee State by 2.5 points. Coming down to the final event of the Championship, the Bucs beat out the Black and Gold by less than half a second.

Lipscomb won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:13.97 while ETSU just eclipsed KSU for second and the conference title with a time of 3:14.81. The Owls clocked 3:15.22 to finish third.

Helping contribute to the Owls performance was Andre Dorsey who was named the MVP of the Conference meet. Dorsey logged the same height as first place Parish Goggins in the high jump, but with more attempts to take second place. Dorsey won the javelin with a 56.07m (183-11) throw, third place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.35m and fourth in the long jump at 6.98m.

“It feels pretty good, but I wish I could have done a little better and helped the team win a title,” Dorsey said. “I am excited about the improvement of this team and what we can do in the coming years.”

Kendall Parks recorded a conference-record time of 14.02 in the 110m hurdles and a second place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.25. Freshman Reggie Lewis set program records in both the 100m and 200m dash, as he finished second in each. In the 100m Lewis posted a time of 10.48 and 21.16 in the 200m, while junior Sadio Diallo ran 21.57 and was third.

Senior Brian Graham finished second in the decathlon with 5978 total points over ten events, winning the 110m hurdles and the 100m. Hendrik Themas finished just beyond in third place at 5441after finishing first in the shot put, discus and javelin throw.

The women for the second time this season finished as the runner-up behind seven time reining champions Jacksonville. The Owls placed second with 151 points, beating out host North Florida, who finished third with 148 points.

Christie Leverette tied a facility record and set the KSU record in the high jump, clearing 1.76m (5-9.25) en route to winning the event. Leverette also claimed runner-up honors in the heptathlon with a score of 4955, while team mate Naomi Mack placed third with 4663 points.

Junior Suzee Mills threw 40.40m (132-6) to win the javelin, while teammate freshman Chelsea Wood was second with a mark of 38.53m (126-5). Shannon Hooper earned her second, third place title with a throw of 43.65m (143-2) in the discus throw.

Cynthia Davis recorded a second place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 11.80. Kentrell White also put together a solid two-day performance with a third place finish in the 400m, timing in at 55.46.
