KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team officially closed out its spring season on Sunday, April 22 with the playing of its Annual Alumni Game at KSU Stadium. The Alumni team won the game in dramatic fashion as it outlasted the current 2012 Owls in penalty kicks, 3-1.
Offense was the name of the game on Sunday as the game was played on a shorter field this year in a 8v8 format.
Leading the way for the current 2012 Owls squad was freshman
Iyani Hughes who led all players with three goals in the contest. Also, senior
Alyssa Mahan, who was playing in her final game as a current KSU player, recorded two goals on the afternoon. For the Alums current assistant coach
Rebecca Nolin and Rachel Baer each tallied two goals apiece in the game.
After 60 minutes of play the two sides saw themselves locked in a 9-9 deadlock which led to one of the most exciting events in all of sports, penalty kicks.
In the shootout the experience of the Alums proved to be the difference as they buried three of their attempts compared to just one by the 2012 Owls.
“It was great to see so many of our Alumni and their families at this year’s event,” head coach
Rob King said. “With some 'questionable' tactics by the Alums, it proved to be a very enjoyable and competitive game. The current squad has enjoyed an excellent spring and we're all looking forward to the fall season.”
