Owls Fall to No. 23 Georgia Tech, 7-3

KSU returns to A-Sun action on Thursday

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team fell 7-3 to the No. 23 ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night, in front of a record breaking crowd at Stillwell Stadium.

The 1,314 in attendance set the all-time record for a KSU baseball game. Breaking the old record that was set April 5, of last season when the two teams met at the Shake.

Owls starter Kevin McCoy, in his first ever Division I start, held the Yellow Jackets in check for three scoreless innings. The first runs of the game would come in the top of the fourth after Georgia Tech put runners on first and second. Mott Hyde stepped to the plate and delivered a single to left field that was booted by Jacob Bruce. The Yellow Jackets would score two on the play, while Hyde advanced to third. Eventually scoring on a wild pitch, Tech would take a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning.

Tech would strike for one more run in the fifth inning, and follow it up with three in the sixth, to jump out to a 7-0 advantage.

KSU would get on the board and score three runs in the sixth inning to make it a 7-3 game. After a walk was issued to Bruce and Aaron Dobbs was hit by a pitch, Andy Almonte would double down the left field line to plate the Owls first run. Ronnie Freeman would then follow with a two-RBI single and bring the squad with in four.

Georgia Tech’s relief staff would hold the Owls to only two hits, while stranding three runners on base the remainder of the game, en route to a 7-4 victory, and a season sweep over the Black and Gold.

The Owls collected seven hits in the contest, including a team high two by Dobbs, and Freeman led the squad with two RBI. The Yellow Jackets earned 13 hits as they saw six different KSU pitchers.

The Black and Gold return to action on Thursday when the team proceeds with Atlantic Sun action, and take on Lipscomb in a three game series. KSU is currently tied for first in the conference while the Bison are fourth, just a game behind the Owls. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7 p.m. E.T.
