The throwers on the team also traveled to neighboring Jacksonville State University to compete in the 2012 Gem of the Hills Invitational. Tyler Crow claimed the title in the hammer throw with a distance of 38.90m. In the shot put, Crow placed second with a throw of 13.11m, and seventh in the discus at 36.03m.

Chelsea Wood placed eighth in the women’s shot put with a throw of 11.36m, and Joyce Smith placed 11th at 11.00m.

The Owls will return to action on Apr. 20-21 when the teams compete for the A-Sun Outdoor Championship. In 2011, the men ousted ETSU by 66 points to claim their second consecutive outdoor title. The women finished third behind the two Jacksonville schools, but with the addition of some talented freshman, which join a solid core group of athletes, the women are bound to make a title run.
