Women's Track Signs Six More to National Letters of Intent

Owls continue to add talent

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and head track and field coach Andy Eggerth, announced the signing of six more athletes to the women’s track program earlier this week.

The six athletes, Netalia Anderson, Greciana Cooper, Abby Lazard, Shermaine Pinkard, Jacy Robertson and Nikiyah Shields will join the Owls in the fall as members of the 2012 women’s track and field team.

Anderson comes to the Black and Gold from Wheeler High School in Marietta Ga. Anderson is a multi-event athlete who won the Class AAAAA Section triple jump this year with a distance of 11.36 meters. Anderson also competes in the 100m dash with her season’s best time of 12.57 coming at the Region 5-AAAAA Championship.

Cooper is a distance and mid-distance runner from Southwest Dekalb High School. Cooper won the Class AAAA Section East 1600m with a time of 5:09.46 and was a runner-up in the 800m at a pace of 2:18.61. Her personal best in the 800m is 2:16.25.

Lazard will join the Owls after a standout career at Central Lafourche in Raceland, La., where she most recently won the Region III-5A Championship in the long jump with a distance of 5.25. Lazard also finished second at the same meet in the triple jump with a leap of 10.78m.

Pinkard, a thrower from Jones County High School in Gray, Ga., is coming off two Class AAAA Section West titles in the shot put and discus. Pinkard had a shot put toss of 11.61 and a discus throw 39.6m. She comes to the Black and Gold as a prep multi-star athlete having played Basketball as well.

Robertson is another athlete coming from Jones County High School in Gray, Ga. She is a specialist in the pole vault who holds a personal best of 2.98m in the event. Robertson also competes in the 1600m with a best time of 7:24.00 and the 800m with a time of 2:53.27.

Shields is a 400m specialist from Richmond Hill High School in Richmond Hill, Ga. Shields posted her top time in the 400 of 57.15 at the Class AAAA Section East earlier this year. A champion in the 400 at the Region 2-AAAA Championship as well, Shields also is a competitor in the 200m dash with a top time of 26.64 and the 800m with a personal best of 2:27.00.

The six student-athletes will join two others to make eight newcomers to an already successful women’s program. The Owls are coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Atlantic Sun Indoor and Outdoor Championships and are improving with every meet.
