All Conference Selections
MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon the men’s All-Conference Teams with three Kennesaw State men’s golfers collecting honors.
Senior Matt Nagy was named a First Team Honoree, senior Jeff Karlsson was appointed to the Second Team and freshman Jimmy Beck was voted to the All Freshmen Team as the voting was done by the conference’s 10 coaches.
"I am very proud that Matt, Jeff, and Jimmy have been recognized by the A-Sun Conference, and our golf coaches,” head coach Jay Moseley said. “These three young men have worked very hard just like the rest of our team has all year long, and they are very deserving of their honor."
Nagy is honored as a first team representative for the second consecutive year. He competed in all 10 of the Owls events and maintained a stroke average of 72.59, with his top finish on the season coming at the Memphis Intercollegiate with a third place performance. His lowest round of the season was a course and KSU school record as he posted a 63, -8 at the Seminole Intercollegiate, which ranks fifth lowest in the country for 2011-12.
Karlsson played in eight of the team’s 10 events while maintaining a stroke average of 72.52 for tops on the team. His low round of the season was a 65, -6 at the Seminole Intercollegiate. Karlsson sustained a first round average of 71.29, and 4.75 par-five scoring average. He led the team with 81 birdies on the season, converting 34 percent of his birdie opportunities, good for fourth in the country.
Beck competed in nine of the Owls 10 events as true freshman, while holding a stroke average of 74.85. His top finish of 10th place came at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, earning Beck the A-Sun Conference Golfer of the Week for 11/1. Beck closed out the season with a par-five average of 4.90, with 66 birdies on the season.
The Owls won three titles during the 2011-12 campaign and currently reside as the nations No. 41 ranked team and will return to action on May 17-19 when the team competes in the Men’s 74th Annual Regional Championship.
The team will await their destination as six possible venues wait, Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina, The University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Georgia, University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Michigan, The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, and the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, California.
