KENNESAW, Ga. – If the first time is any sort of indicator than Kennesaw State men’s golf alumni Matt Nagy is sure in for a successful professional career as he won the Open Golf Atlanta Heron Bay Tournament on Friday afternoon in his first-ever professional golf tournament.
Nagy shot a 65, -7 by recording nine birdies and two bogeys during his round. His score of 65 was one shot better than runner-up Sam Del Val, who is the former Georgia State Open Champion. For his efforts he took home the first place prize of $1,200.
"I really worked hard leading up to the event and felt great about my game," Nagy said. "After a practice round I knew I had the ability to shoot a low round. I got off to a good start by birdieing the first hole and made the turn at four under. I told myself to keep it going because I didn't know how low the winning score would be so I tried to make as many birdies as possible on a difficult back nine. Fortunately, 9 birdies and 2 bogeys were just enough to get my first win."
Next up for Nagy he will begin his quest on getting his PGA tour card and will be competing in the 2012 PGA Tour Qualifying School this fall.
The purpose of Open Golf Atlanta is to provide a series of truly “OPEN” golf events for professionals in the greater Atlanta area and beyond. Open Golf Atlanta is a low cost alternative to the developmental-mini tours like the NGA-Hooters, Tarheel, and Grey Goose Gateway Tours. These tours are great and aid in the development to the next level.
