KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State golfer Matt Nagy was named to the 2012 Division I Ping All-Southeast Region Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday.
A total of 155 players across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2012, as Nagy earns his second consecutive PING Regional honors.
Also a two time All Atlantic Sun First Team selection, Nagy competed in all 10 of the Owls events and maintained a stroke average of 72.59. His top finish on the season was registered at the Memphis Intercollegiate where the senior took third place. His lowest round of the season was a course and KSU school record as he posted a 63, -8 at the Seminole Intercollegiate, which ranks fifth lowest in the country for 2011-12.
Nagy has already completed his tenure as a KSU Owl, turning pro directly after the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional and winning his first pro event. Winning the Georgia State Open Championship, Nagy shot a 65, -7 by recording nine birdies and two bogeys in his professional debut.
Next up for Nagy will be the U.S. Open Sectionals, as Matt will compete in Memphis, Tenn., on June 4 at the Germantown Country Club. Nagy will be paired with former Open Championship and Players Championship winner Justin Leonard as well as Garth Mulroy.
Current KSU golfer Ben Greene will try his hand at qualifying for the 2012 U.S. Open the same day in Suwanee, Ga., at the River Club. Greene and Nagy both advanced to the Sectionals after moving on from the 18-hole local qualifier hosted at the Marietta Country Club.
