All-America Scholar List

NORMAN, Okla. – Rising senior Ben Greene and former Kennesaw State men’s golfer Jeff Karlsson were recognized as 2012 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar recipients for the Division I level on Wednesday by the Golf Coaches of America.

A finance major from Duluth, Ga., Greene has been honored as an Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic honoree two consecutive years. A former recipient of the Elite-88 award, an honor given to the participant with the highest GPA competing at the NCAA Championship, Greene has been one of Kennesaw State’s most successful student-athletes on and off the playing field.

In 2011-12, Greene won his first collegiate individual medalist at the Memphis Intercollegiate by shooting a one-under-par 215. He was the only competitor under par as he helped the Black and Gold claim their third team title of the season. Greene finished the season with a 74.04 stroke average with his low round of the season being a 69. He recorded three top-15 finishes on the season, including a second place performance at the Rees Jones Invitational.

Karlsson, a two-time A-Sun All Academic selection and former Second Team All-American finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 72.75 stroke average. A business major from Gothenburg, Sweden, Karlsson, like Greene found success both in and out of the classroom. He was recognized as an All A-Sun Second Team selection this past season, making him the only Owl to be a three-time All-Conference selection.

A total of 146 players in Division I athletics earned the award. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.
