KENNESAW, Ga. – It was a banner day for the Kennesaw State men's basketball team as the Owls put up their largest win since joining the NCAA Division I ranks with a 92-48 victory over Warren Wilson College on Monday morning in the KSU Convocation Center.
KSU, now 1-3 on the year with the win, saw a pair of 20-point performances in
Orlando Coleman and
Nigel Pruitt, Coleman putting in 26 with 10 rebounds and two blocks and Pruitt adding in 23 on five three-pointers.
"It was good to finally watch the ball go in," Kennesaw State head coach
Lewis Preston said. "Some guys came off the bench and gave us some added energy and I'm looking forward to taking this into Thursday night against Mississippi State. I want to thank all of the fans and students that came out today.
"Let's continue to honor those that are serving our country and that have served our country by making sure that we pay proper respect to all of the veterans from all of the wars and the ones that continue to protect us. I appreciate all of them."
The Owls, who are the only team in the nation to have played four games in four days, took a school-record setting 37 three-point attempts during the contest, connecting on 14 of those, the second most all-time, with Pruitt landing five and
Tanner Wozniak connecting on three.
After starting off the contest behind by three points, the Owls made it a 13-point swing, going up by 10 on three-pointers from Wozniak and
Delbert Love, 14-4. KSU then extended its lead to 18 points after a 12-3 run to go into halftime with the 36-18 advantage.
Out of the intermission it was Warren Wilson (2-3) that came out swinging first, cutting what was an 18-point halftime lead for KSU down to just 12 over the first two minutes of action. The Owls quickly responded, however, putting in five straight points on a Pruitt three followed by an
Orland Coleman jumper.
Coleman then gave KSU its first 20-point lead of the season as he banked in a layup at the 13:32 mark to put the Owls up, 46-26. Pruitt then made it a 30-point edge with a three-pointer midway through the second followed by a triple from Wozniak as KSU went up 63-30.
It was then Coleman again edging the Owls up by 40 with the alley-oop dunk off of a
Charlie Byers assists with Pruitt then ending the game in fitting fashion off of a three-pointer as KSU took the 92-48 win.
To go along with the sharp-shooting of Coleman and Pruitt, Wozniak also finished in double-figures with 13 points while
Jordan Montgomery added in nine with six assists as the Owls shot 49 percent from the field as a team.
KSU outrebounded its opponent for the third straight game, bringing in 45 to WWC's 39 with Coleman's 10 tops for both teams.
The Owls also set a new season high in blocks with seven total as Pruitt led the way with his three.
KSU will now play its first road game of the season as the team heads to Starkville, Miss. for a Nov. 14 meeting with SEC opponent Mississippi State.
