Kennesaw, Ga. – With 2014 right around the corner, that means it is almost time for the Kennesaw State men's and women's track and field teams to start their upcoming seasons. Â
Â
In the offseason, the track and field teams work very hard and sacrifice many hours of their own time to be in shape for the upcoming season. Last year, all the hard work paid off as the men swept the Atlantic Sun indoor and outdoor championships for the third time, and the women had a runner-up finish for the second consecutive year to Jacksonville University at the outdoor championships.
Â
Both teams are returning a lot of talent and have big expectations from their 2013 campaigns. The men are returning 13 Atlantic Sun Champions from last year including
Andre Dorsey, who earned All-American honors in the triple jump and the most outstanding field performer from the indoor and outdoor championships.
Â
After winning last year's indoor championship by 44.5 points, covering the largest margin of victory in conference history, the team is keeping its edge this offseason to continue it's success.
Â
"The offseason has been going well," the 2013 indoor shot put champion,
Robert Harvey said. "Everybody is working hard, training and doing the little things that you have to do to be successful."
Â
On the women's side, they are returning three members from the 4x100 team, who were the first All-Americans ever on the women's side. The team has gotten closer and closer each year to winning their first A-Sun Championship and is hoping this is the year they finally break through.
Â
"It would mean a lot to be the first team to win an Atlantic Sun Championship with the track and field team here," sprinter
Kentrell White said. "We've been working really hard, and we have a lot of really good incoming freshmen that have just jumped on board. We actually have this quote we think about and it's, "Do not grow weary because you will reap if you do not give up." We've been staying focused and it will mean so much if we can win that A-Sun Championship."
Both teams kick off their indoor seasons on Friday, January 10 at the Blazer Invitational. Keep up with Owls track and field teams by following KSU on Twitter at
