BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Kennesaw State track and field team continued its record breaking season as four more KSU records were broken at the Samford Invite and Multi Events, held at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The women had three records broken on Saturday as Gwen Jones set the weight throw record, and Greciana Cooper and Cynthia Davis each surpassed their own records. Cooper bested her one mile record set last week at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational with a time of 5:11.70 to finish 23rd.

Davis too broke her own record set last week in the 200m as she placed third with a time of 24.40. Jones’ throw of 18.20m out did the previous record held by Suzee Mills.

Freshman Bilal Abdulah set the indoor heptathlon school record with a point total of 4,980. Abdulah finished first in the long jump portion of the heptathlon with a jump of 7.14m, and finished second in the 60m dash (7.04), 60m hurdles (8.54) and high jump (2.00m).

Other notable performances of the meet came from the women’s 60m dash as the trio of Hannah Wood, Davis and Alicia Whittle all qualified for the Invitational final. Wood finished as the top performer in the group in fourth place with a time of 7.58, whereas Davis (7.65) placed fifth and Whittle (7.68) finished sixth.

Michael Owenby collected a third place finish in the pole vault with a distance of 4.60m. Both Rasmus Rooks and Zac Davis finished the 200m dash with personal records, as Rooks placed 20th at 22.13 and Davis took home 29th at 22.37.

The next meet for the Owls will be the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. The men will aim to repeat as back to back champions, while the women will search to win their first A-Sun title. The Championship will open on Friday, Feb. 22 in Johnson City, Tenn., at the MSHA Athletics Center on the campus of East Tennessee State.

The meet opens on Friday with the heptathlon 60m dash at 3 p.m. E.T. Keep up with Owls track and field by following KSU on Twitter at @KSUOwlNation and @KSUTrackFieldXC or by liking Kennesaw State Owls on Facebook.
