MARIETTA, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to East Tennessee State as the Owls celebrated the career of senior Therese Lagerkvist in the final home match of the 2013 season on Saturday, April 13 at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center.

KSU finishes the regular season with a 9-11 overall record and a 4-4 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference action, while ETSU moves to 13-5 and 8-0 in the league.

Despite an 8-6 win over Salma Dahbi and Antonia Kolovou from sophomores Virginie Stein and Tamara Plocher at No. 2 doubles, the Owls dropped the doubles point to give the Bucs an early 1-0 advantage.

After setbacks on courts two and six, Lagerkvist fell to Anna Gerbasi in a hard fought 7-5, 7-5 decision at No. 4 singles, giving the Bucs the four points needed for the victory.

With the outcome of the match already decided, junior Alexandra Apostu and sophomore Virginie Stein continued to battle for the Owls, posting back-to-back three-set wins on courts one and three to conclude the contest. Apostu defeated Giulia Andreazza, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 3 singles for the first KSU point of the match. Stein then closed out the match with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-4 win over Antonia Kolovou at No. 1 singles.

The Owls next travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to participate in the 2013 A-Sun Championship, hosted by ETSU on April 19-21. KSU will enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed. More information about Kennesaw State’s opponent, as well as the date and time of its first round match will be released later in the week.
