KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior
Emily Collins (Snellville, Ga. / Decatur HS) has been named Atlantic Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday (Apr. 15).
Collins tallied a program-high seven goals, including the game winner, in leading the Owls to their first victory in program history, a 14-13 victory over A-Sun rival Howard on Friday (Apr. 12).
She followed up that performance with a two-goal, one-assist effort against Stetson on Sunday (Apr. 14) to conclude the weekend with 11 points.
“Emily deserves this recognition,” head coach
Kristina Llanes said. “Not only did she play very well in our game against Howard, but since transferring to Kennesaw State, she has brought so many positive attributes to our program.”
Collins, a first-time honoree, joins teammate
Senneca Ward (Peachtree City, Ga. / McIntosh HS) as the second player during the program’s inaugural season to be honored by the conference.
Kennesaw State returns to action Sunday (April 21), when it visits Detroit for both teams’ regular-season finale. The opening draw is slated for 1 p.m. (ET).
The Owls can clinch an A-Sun Conference tournament berth with a victory at Detroit or a Stetson win at Howard on Friday (Apr. 19).
The top four teams in the five-team league advance to the A-Sun Conference Tournament that begins on Friday, April 26 in Jacksonville, Fla.
