MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State senior Cynthia Davis (Norcross, Ga./Norcross HS) has been named Atlantic Sun Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

The first time honoree ran her way into the record book twice at the recent Yellow Jacket Invitational (Mar 29-30), setting a new mark individually in the 200m, as well as part of the 4x100m relay team.

In the 200m, Davis broke her own KSU record when she posted the fastest collegiate time of the afternoon (24.04) on her way to placing second overall.  Her time also leads the A-Sun Conference this season.

“24.04 is a nice lifetime best for her,” Head Coach Andy Eggerth said. “We look forward to her dipping in the 23-second range in the near future.”

She then joined teammates Alicia Whittle (Douglasville, Ga./Harvester Christian Academy), Kentrell White (Conyers, Ga./Salem HS) and Hannah Wood (Carrolton, Ga./Mt. Zion HS) for the 4x100m relay. The team, who was looking for its third top finish in a row, did not disappoint as they ran a program-best 45.30, beating out Auburn and Alabama for the number one spot.

“I am so happy to see Cynthia having the successful year that she has had so far,” Eggerth added. “She has stepped up her game, and I am thrilled to see the results reflecting her improved focus.”

Davis, and the rest of the KSU women’s and men’s track and field teams continue the 2013 season when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Florida Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 5-6.
