KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s and women’s track and field teams tallied four more accolades this afternoon (May 20) as the conference announced that
Ryan Burruss (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison HS),
Rasmus Rooks (Tallinn, Estonia),
Suzee Mills (Hoschton, Ga. / Mill Creek HS), and
Cynthia Davis (Norcross, Ga. / Norcross HS) have been named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team.
The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams in the 2011-12 academic year to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative GPA or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.
Burruss, a criminal justice major, maintained a GPA of 3.80 during his tenure at Kennesaw State.
The senior ended the season with eight top-ten finishes, including a silver medal win in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2013 A-Sun Outdoor Championship with a time of 9:12.13, the third best time in the conference this season.
Sophomore Rooks, studying health and exercise science (3.54 GPA), competed 20 times during the outdoor campaign, finishing in the top-five 11 times.
The Tallinn, Estonia native was part of the 4x200m (1:26.21) and short sprint medley relay teams (1:31.25) that set new KSU school records, while also individually owning the third best mark in the long jump (7.49m 24-07), the sixth best time in the 100m (10.62), and the seventh best time in the 200m (21.79).
Mills, a sport management major, posted a GPA of 3.44 on her way to graduating this May.
The recent KSU alum racked up a gold medal in the hammer throw (53.30m 174-10) and a bronze in the javelin (37.70m 123-08), while posting the best overall mark in the hammer this season in the conference.
Senior Davis, competing in her final season as an Owl, set five KSU records, one individually, and four more as a key member on several different relay teams.
The early childhood education major (3.30 GPA) tallied 29 points at the A-Sun Championship, winning a gold in the 4x100m (44.63), and bronze medals in the 200m and 4x400m relay events.
"I am pleased to see our kids get academic recognition to add to their athletic awards," Head Coach
Andy Eggerth said. "I just hope to have a whole lot more All-Academic next year."
Qualifying members of the both the men’s and women’s track and field teams will next travel to Greensboro, N.C. to compete at the NCAA Championship Preliminaries beginning May 23.
