Simmons, who also hauled in Atlantic Sun Conference All-First Team and unanimous All-Freshmen Team honors, was a staple at shortstop for Kennesaw State this season, playing and starting in 52 games while batting .289 with a fielding percentage of .929.

“Kal had a tremendous year for us,” said Kennesaw State head coach Mike Sansing. “He did a great job for the team both offensively and defensively. Shortstop is such a difficult position so for him to earn this honor is just a huge accolade for him and it shows what he did for us all season long.”

The Nashville, Ga., native was good for 54 hits in 187 at bats, including 11 doubles, and was among the leaders on the team with 27 RBI. Simmons had 14 games with multiple hits and had a career-best 4-for-4 game against conference rival Mercer.

Simmons was also top five on the team in numerous offensive categories including batting average (.289), slugging percentage (.348), RBI (27) and doubles (11), all while leading the Owls to a trip to the A-Sun Conference championship game.

“We saw a lot of teams this year and I wouldn’t trade Kal for anybody,” added Sansing. “It’s a well deserved recognition on his part.”

The freshman joins eight other A-Sun athletes on the prestigious list.
