Sadio Diallo (France / Lycee Francais Liberte) will compete in the men's 200m race at the French National Track Championships that open Sunday (July 14) at Stade Charléty in Paris, France.
"I'm very proud of Sadio. He's worked extremely hard this year and become much more disciplined off the track," head coach Andy Eggerth said. "This has resulted in him dropping more than half a second off of his 200m time since last year. His efforts have been recognized on an international level with the French coaches taking note and asking him to come compete at the French National Championships."
Diallo was invited because he had a 200m qualifying mark within a set period of time. He will race in the semi-final at 10:10 A.M. EDT in an attempt to reach the finals that are scheduled for 1:50 P.M. EDT.
"Beyond the obvious of developing better people and better students, this is one of the key features that we are looking to in an effort to grow our track and field program: developing athletes that receive national and international recognition and have the opportunity to compete successfully at the highest levels," Eggerth said. "Sadio embodies this holistic developmental process of improved performance on the track largely due to enhanced character off the track. I'm just so pleased when I see it all come together for athletes that have bought into the process."
During the 2013 collegiate season, Diallo turned in a school-record time of 21.07 to finish second in the 200m while helping the Owls to their fourth outdoor Atlantic Sun Conference title.
