WBB: Wells Named to A-Sun Preseason All-Conference Team

Owls Picked Seventh in Coaches’ and Media Preseason Polls

2014-15 A-SUN PRESEASON TEAM | A-SUN RELEASE

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's basketball senior guard Kristina Wells earned a spot on the 2014-15 Preseason Atlantic Sun All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 16).

"I am extremely excited for Kristina to be named to the preseason all-conference team," said head coach Nitra Perry. "She is very deserving of the award. I was completely shocked last year at the end of the season that she did not get all-conference honors because she was at the top of the A-Sun in several statistical categories. She works extremely hard in practice and over the two seasons I have been here she has played every position on the floor and done everything I have asked her to do. She is a senior and it is her time, so I look forward to her having a great senior year."

Wells had a breakout season in 2013-14 and was the leading score for the Owls with 459 points as she became Kennesaw State's third 1,000 career point scorer in the Division I era last season.

She ranked in top four in the A-Sun in scoring and rebounding with 15.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, while also averaging 3.3 assists and 1.6 assists as a junior. Playing the third-most minutes in the conference and ranking in the top 15 in almost every statistical category, Wells registered the first-ever triple-double in KSU Division I history with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists at Lipscomb on Jan. 9, 2014.

The Douglasville, Ga., native ranked second in the league with 12 double-doubles a season ago, while also registering 14 10-rebound games, five 20-point contests and two 30-point games.

Florida Gulf Coast's Whitney Knight took home Preseason Player of the Year honors, while Amber Porter of Stetson was tabbed as Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

The A-Sun also released its preseason women's basketball coaches and media polls with KSU coming in seventh in both polls. FGCU earned the top position in both polls, followed by Stetson and Northern Kentucky in the second and third positions.

The Owls will begin their the new campaign on Nov. 8 with an exhibition against Emory, before officially opening the 2014-15 season at home against the College of Charleston on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. ET in the KSU Convocation Center.
