VIDEO KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team put aside workouts on Friday afternoon, taking the day to look back on the banner 2014 season as head coach
Mike Sansing passed out the team's championship rings in a ceremony held at Stillwell Stadium.
Members gathered from the 2014 squad that finished No. 13 in the nation and put together the school's first Atlantic Sun Conference and NCAA Regional championship titles to collect their hardware.
"It's a special time for sure," said Sansing of the afternoon. "We look back at all the efforts that this team put in and the season we had was remarkable. It did a lot for this university, the community and the state. I'm excited for the guys and to hand out these rings."
The rings, which were designed by assistant coach
Derek Simmons, feature the prominent gold interlocking "KS" logo on the face framed by the words "regional champions."
The left side adorns the player name, number and the words "A-Sun Champions" while the right side reads "13
th in the nation" as well as "Super Regionals" and the team's record of 40-24.
Inside the ring the words "Season of the belt" are engraved, an homage to the team's
championship belt that was handed out after each KSU win.
Each player as well as coaches and staff received rings.
KSU will look to defend its A-Sun and Regional Championship Titles starting on February 13 with a Friday afternoon game against Liberty at Stillwell Stadium.
"For the guys that didn't get them hopefully that's their goal, to achieve that," added Sansing. "And for the guys that did get them, we want to repeat. I felt like we broke the barrier going as far as we did and there's no reason we can't go back again."
