"We had some great efforts and good performances today," #Andy Eggerth, director of track & field and cross country, said. "Kidan, Katrine, and Amanda all came through the 5k of their 6k race at their 5k personal best which is a great thing to see at championship time. Finishing 25th in our region is also good movement in the development of our women's program.
For the men, freshman
Daniel Garcia finished 23rd with a time of 31.01.20 in the 10-kilometer race. Freshmen
Dylan Titon (48
th, 32:19.90),
Cameron Gatt (98
th; 32:32.40) and #Jordan Hand (135
th; 33:57.70) rounded out the scoring for the Owls. Redshirt-junior
Natan Reuter finished the race, but was disqualified.
"Daniel ran a gutsy race, getting out a little too hard which came back to get him at the end when he was only a few seconds off of moving onto the NCAA Championships," Eggerth said. "It's disappointing for him, but as a freshman he displayed an outstanding effort and has this as a learning opportunity. Natan (Reuter) also put it out there for the team. We needed every athlete to finish the race for the team and although injured, Natan did just that. Unfortunately he was disqualified so we don't have a team score, but everybody finished the race which is what was required."
Both teams will turn their focus to the start of the indoor track and field season that begins on Dec. 5 at the BSC Panther Indoor Ice Breaker in Birmingham, Ala.
