THE COACHES TAKE ON THIS WEEKEND:»
Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Andy Eggerth: "December competition is always fun and exciting. After months of hard training, it's nice to line up against others and get the competitive juices flowing. It's always an interesting competition because we're at one of our highest points of training so the legs are tired and heavy, but every year we have athletes that break lifetime bests and school records in December which shows really good things in store for them during the spring semester."
»
Throws Coach Duane Morris: "I have a very young group this year. I'm excited to see the younger athletes compete in a collegiate setting. The adjustment from high school to college has been difficult at times for this group, but they should fare well at the Icebreaker meet. My upper classmen look decent in practice, so we will see what this weekend brings. Moreover, I would not be surprised if we came close to breaking a couple school records. This meet will help the throwers focus during the winter break, and come back ready to win multiple conference titles!"
»
Sprinters Coach Agne Eggerth : "It's always an exciting time to have first meet of the season, to be able to see the results of the hard work put in through the fall and also to get more motivation to keep working hard. I'm excited to see how our new athletes will stack up against our veterans and who will take the lead in leading the group and team."
NEWS AND NOTES:» The men's track and field team returns to the track this season looking to defend their indoor and outdoor championships. Last year, the Owls swept the indoor and outdoor championships for the third time in the program's history.
» The men's team won last year's fourth Indoor championship in seven years by 36 points covering the second largest margin of victory ever.
» After scoring a meet-high 38 points in the five events he competed in, Dorsey was unanimously selected as the 2014 Men's Most Valuable Field Performer at the indoor championship for the second consecutive year.
» Eggerth won his sixth and seventh A-Sun Coach of the Year awards last spring as his team won the A-Sun Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
